whether的详细用法

　　这个句子有两种解释：

　　A：“请让我们知道你是否想来。”

　　B：“如果你打算来，请让我们知道。”

　　第一种解释是把if引导的从句看作宾语从句，把动词know视为及物动词(vt.);第二种解释是把if引导的从句当作条件状语从句，把动词know看作不及物动词(vi.)。

　　在口语中，我们可以通过语调来表示两者的区别;但是，在书面语中，无上下文(如一张便条上写着这句话)，那就含混不清了。如果我们想表达的第一种含义，就得用whether来改写第一句。①Please let me know whether you intend to come. 又如：②Let me know whether he has left for Shanghai. 告诉我他是否已经去上海了。③Let me know if he has left for Shanghai. 如果他去上海，请告诉我一声。此外，whether还可以引导让步状语从句，作“无论、不管”解，这儿就略而不谈

whether用法口诀

　　whether和if经常可以互换着使用，但是在下面的情况中，就只能用 whether。请看whether 的用法口诀

　　“在to do 前，在介、名后，or not 出现(隐含)whether不要漏。主、表、宾从和同位，使用whether保证对。遇到discuss用whether，if在此是累赘”。

　　具体解释如下：

　　第一句 ：“在to do 前”，是说whether要用在动词不定式前。例句：I don‘t know whether to accept the offer or not.

　　我不知道该不该接受这个提议。(这个句子里面whether 出现在了to accept之前)

　　第二句 “在介、名后”要求whether要用在介词和名词后面。例句1：She hasn’t decided whether coffee or tea to drink.她还没想好喝咖啡还是喝茶。例句2.He doesn‘t know whether by plane or by train to go to his friend‘s home.

　　他不知道是乘飞机还是坐火车去他的朋友家。

　　第三句 “or not 出现(隐含)whether 不要漏。”大家可能已经注意到了，在使用whether时，经常有or not伴随左右，甚至在省略or not 时也要使用whether。例句：No one can predict whether this will happen again(or not).

　　没有人能预测这种事情还会不会再发生。

　　第四句 “主、表、宾从和同位”使用whether保证对”。这句话是告诉大家，whether可以引导名词从句，即主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句。例句1：It is unclear whether they will accept my suggestions.(主语从句)还不清楚他们是否会接受我的建议。2.The police have known whether the terrorists would take actions or not.警方已经知道....们是否要采取行动了。(宾语从句)3.What I really want to know is whether they will help us as they promised.我确实想知道他们能否如他们所承诺地那样帮助我们。(表语从句)4.They have proved the fact whether they could do it all by themselves.他们已经证明了他们能完全否独立地做那件事情。(同位语从句)5.They are discussing whether it is worth doing the experiment again.他们在讨论这个试验是否值得再做一次。(出现在discuss后，必须使用whether ,而不是if)。
