He was reading a book on ethics.
He wrote a book on scientific baby care.
She's writing a book on her travels in China.
He has written a book about angling.
She had written a book about her childhood. (G51)
He has been working on the illustration of a book about animals.
(1) a book on rabbits
(2) a book about rabbits
He had a pistol about [on, with] him.
Have you got any money about [on, with] you?
How much cash do you have about [on, with] you?
Do you have any identification / ID about [on, with] you?
A generation is about 25 years.
Please don't wake me till about 8.
I will call for you about 2.30.
I went to sleep about 11 last midnight.
4. 在动词know, hear, speak 等之后用不用介词 about / of, 含义有差别:
I have heard about him, but I don't know him.
I've heard of him, but I don't know about him.
know of sb 知道有某人
5. be about to (do),意为“即将”“马上”。
He was just about to burst into song.
Work was about to start on a new factory building.
I was about to leave when you came in, but I won't go now.
Please buckle up now;we're about to land.
He is about to return to his homeland.
He is about to return to his homeland tomorrow.
I was (just) about to go to bed when the telephone rang.
(2) be about 之后可接动名词(但 be about to 之后不能接动名词):
